How much to feed fish in the fall | Baltimore Pond Tips | Maryland Pond Companies | Koi Pond
In the Baltimore area, most ponds stay below 50 degrees for the winter. It’s best to stop feeding your pond fish once the water temperature averages and stays below 50° F. At this point the fish will go into a slow hibernation and stop eating altogether.
It’s best to slowly stop feeding your fish as your pond temperatures drop.
Here is what we typically do in the Maryland area:
Reduce your feeding to once a week when the pond temperatures stay between 50-55° F.
When your pond temperature stays below 50° F, it’s best to stop feeding them until the temperature consistently warms in spring. If it happens to get warm in the winter do not start feeding your fish.
